Strong Dutch line-up at Luxembourg’s free e-lake festival

e-Lake festival, on the shores of Lake Echternach in Luxembourg’s Mullerthal Region will welcome 25,000 visitors from Friday 10 to Sunday 12 August.

Now in its 22nd year and firmly on the region’s festival circuit, the free-entry e-Lake festival has an astounding line up of live bands and internationally-renowned DJs covering every music genre from rock to hip-hop, indie to reggae, and dance to trance. Utilising two stages, in a natural amphitheatre, surrounded by green hills, there will once again be a 10,000 person open air dance floor.

Dutch band Kensington to headline

Heading Friday’s line-up, will be Utrecht’s rock band Kensington, fresh from their sell-out tour. In fact e-Lake will be showcasing several Dutch live acts including DJs Mark Sixma and Ruben de Ronde, who will share the stage on Saturday with Markus Schulz, German/American DJ and music producer to the stars including Jewel, Madonna and Fatboy Slim. Luxembourg’s own Celtic-pop band Dream Catcher will lead the party time line-up for Sunday.

“We try to get all types of music, live concerts by music groups coming from all corners of the world, famous DJs from the house scene and live Luxembourgish talent. It’s the biggest festival in Luxembourg and even in the Greater Region. Our motto is By the Young for the Young,” says Frank Rippinger, one of e-Lake’s organisers. And to make sure that e-Lake gets it right, the organisers work closely with the Echternach Youth Club, particularly as in previous years, 50% of attendees in were less than 30 years old.

Much more than music in Little Switzerland

Picturesque Echternach lake, part of Luxembourg’s Little Switzerland famed for its outstanding scenery and unusual rock formations, will provide the backdrop to the e-Lake festival. There are a number of hiking paths in the area, including the Mullerthal Trail, and you can cycle in the region or along the route PC 2 from Luxembourg-Kirchberg to Echternach. The medieval town with its Benedictine Abbey is filled with history and lined with fantastic restaurants and bars complete with terraces to soak up the summer sun. Nearby Beaufort boasts a castle open every day from 9.00 to 17.30, where you can taste the castle’s blackcurrant liqueur, Cassero, still produced on the site.

Cheap camping and youth hostel options for festival goers

A special e-Lake festival campsite, complete with grocery shop, will be open to festival goers from Thursday to Monday for the cut price of €20 per person plus a refundable €10 waste disposal deposit. The Echternach youth hostel has 118 beds and offers three-course meals for €11. It also has a cafe-bar, a trampoline park, rents bicycles and incorporates a 14m high climbing wall.

A festival shuttle bus and a free Park and Ride service will be available, and food and drinks can be purchased on-site at e-Lake using a coin-token exchange system.

Don’t miss the chance to party under the stars, hear the latest up-and-coming bands and DJs, and check out the outstanding natural beauty of Luxembourg at the e-Lake festival.
