Industrial Heritage
Thursday 4 to Sunday 7 July (4 days, 3 nights)
The south, with the country's second largest city, Esch-sur-Alzette, and former industrial estates in the area, is dominated by the iron and steel industry, which flourished around 1900. Today, former furnaces in Belval, restored coal mines and the Minett Park Fond-de-Gras recall the former wealth of this industry. The combination of history and biodiversity of this region has motivated Luxembourg to apply to be included in the UNESCO “Man and the Biosphere” scientific programme this year. The state-of-the-art university has also found a new home here and helped to transform Belval into a "city" of science, research and innovation. An introduction to the capital's urban flair is also part of the programme.
