Luxembourg City is unique: it is the capital of the world’s only Grand Duchy. It is a modern city with deep historic roots. Contemporary buildings stand in subtle contrast with the remains of the past, the fortress and historic quarters of the old city, registered as UNESCO World Heritage. The cultural offer reflects its international character and it comes as no surprise that the capital has been chosen European Capital of Culture on two separate occasions.
This press trip takes you on a three-day tour, with a two-night stay during which you will discover the tourist highlights and the diversity of a millennium city, which is international and multicultural and has one of the most innovative urban developments in Europe. The visit will also take you to the countryside of the Ardennes region, known for its beautiful landscapes and numerous castles. The emphasis will be on outdoor activities, nature, castles and local produce.
Without any doubt, the town of Vianden is one of the most picturesque places in Luxembourg. The small town is dominated by an extraordinary 9th century castle, which has been beautifully restored. Just like Vianden, the town of Clervaux, which is tucked away in the very heart of the Ardennes, is also home to a medieval castle. On an international level however, it is famous for the permanent exhibition The Family of Man. This photographic collection was brought together by Edward Steichen in 1955 for the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. It has been part of UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register since 2003. Another part of the trip is dedicated to remembrance tourism, which includes a visit to the National Museum of Military History. It focuses on the Battle of the Bulge from 1944-1945.
The Grand Duchy is famous for its welcome culture and high quality of life and of course it also goes without saying that gastronomy, tastings and quirky encounters will also be an important part of your stay. The team of Luxembourg for Tourisme and its partners will welcome you and help you discover the unexpected Luxembourg: the capital, with an add-on.
