You don’t have to be a super-keen athlete to enjoy a cycling holiday in Luxembourg. Whether you want to push yourself on the hills used by Luxembourg’s pro-cycling greats, or meander along flat, riverside paths, the “Bed & Bike” scheme makes it easy. More than 90 establishments have been granted this label to prove that they offer a professional, tailored service.

Is there a better way to discover countryside and atmospheric historic villages than from a bike saddle, whether alone, with a family, or with friends? It’s a great way to get close to your surroundings, as well has giving you a physical and mental lift. The Bed & Bike scheme ensures hotels, hostels, and campsites have what it takes to serve cyclo-tourists. Numerous bike-hire outlets are dotted around the country, boosting your options further.

There are 600km of dedicated, car-free cycle routes in Luxembourg. These well maintained paved paths enable you to enjoy the delightful surroundings without having to worry about the traffic or pot-holes. There are a variety of options. Many of Luxembourg’s castles are linked by bike routes, as are many fascinating remnants of the country’s mining and steel-making heritage. Nature lovers will appreciate the rock formations and streams in the Mullerthal/Little Switzerland region, as well as the high plateaux of the Ardennes hills, and the meanders of the mighty Moselle river. For a change of rhythm, you can bring your bike on a train, or even on one of the Moselle pleasure boats. Alternatively, thrill seekers can hire mountain bikes and follow one of the numerous way-marked trails.

Bed & Bike services are offered by 91 all types of hotel, family run ‘pensions’, campsites, and holiday lets. They all provide secure overnight rooms for bikes, as well as clothing drying rooms, tool kits, and information about he nearest bike-repair shops. They can also provide you with the maps you will need to plan your day. And of course, they all help you start out with a hearty breakfast to give you the energy and nutrients you need for a day in the saddle.
